You may contact me in any of these ways: - Seesaw - Our main way of communication - Email me - [email protected] - Send a note - Call me and leave a message - 847-870-5086 I tend to check my Seesaw/email more frequently during the day, so that may be the best way to contact me. I will get back to you as soon as possible. |
Seesaw -
Seesaw is the district approved form of communication. You will be learning more about this app as the school year progresses. One of the first things for you to do is connect to your child's Seesaw account when I send you an invite. Once you are connected, we will be able to communicate through email, you will be able to see work that your child does on Seesaw and that he/she takes a picture of, and you will be able to leave a positive comment for your child. All newsletters will also be sent through Seesaw.

If Your Wise Owl is Sick or Will be Absent -
If your Wise Owl is going to be absent, please call our absence line at 847-870-3876 by 8:45 am. Please do not email me or leave me a voice mail on the day your child will be out to inform school that your child will be absent as I will most likely not be checking either until the end of the day. If school doesn’t hear from you, someone from the office will need to call you. Since there are many students to account for each day, a phone call from you would be much appreciated. The above phone number is available 24 hours a day, so please feel free to call and leave a message at any time.
If Your Wise Owl is Going Home from School a Different Way -
If there are any changes in the way your Wise Owl will be going home from school, please send a note in to me on the day of the change. If I do not have a note, I will send your child home the way that has previously been set up. If there is an emergency change, please call the office - 847-870-3875 - and they will let me know. Please do not email or leave a voice mail for emergency information. I may not get it until your child has already left for the day.

Home Folders -
As a way of communication between home and school, your Wise Owl will have a folder that is to be kept in the backpack. The right side of the folder will be labeled “Right Back to School.” Any papers that are put in this side of the folder should be returned to school also in that side of the folder. This is also the side of the folder that you should put any communication (notes, envelopes, etc.) in to be given to me. The left side of the folder will be labeled “Left at Home.” Please be sure that you go over these papers with your child on a daily basis and keep them at home. |
Newsletters -
A newsletter will be sent home almost every week. It will be sent to you through Seesaw. Reading the newsletter is the best way to keep up with what is going on in our classroom.
Scholastic Book Orders -
During the year, I will be sending home Scholastic book orders. Please do not feel as though you need to buy a book. I send the orders home so that you have the opportunity to buy good books for your child at a discounted price. Also, any books that are ordered count as bonus points. I get to redeem these bonus points for free books for our classroom which helps build a great library. You can order books in a couple different ways. The easiest way to order is to order online. Go to scholastic.com/readingclub and place your order. To order online, you need to register at the above website and enter our Class Activation Code: M78P8. Or, you can use this link, https://orders.scholastic.com/M78P8, to be directly linked to our class. Books will be delivered to our classroom. You can also fill out the order form and send in a check payable to Scholastic Reading Club or send in cash. Please be sure to put the order form and check or cash in an envelope with your child’s name and Book Order written on the outside of the envelope. When we receive the order, books will be put in backpacks to be taken home.
Principal's Century Book Club -
Wise Owls who read 100 books or have 100 books read to them, or a combination of both, can have their name added to the Principal's Century Book Club wall in the hallway outside of the office. To do this, please write down the names of the books that are read, have a parent sign the sheet, and bring the sheet in to school. Your child's name will be announced over the intercom, his/her name will be added to the wall and he/she will get to pick a special pencil. There is a sheet already made for the Book Club. If you would like one, just ask.

Birthday Celebrations -
At Eisenhower School, we celebrate birthdays by having the birthday Wise Owl bring a favorite book to school. The class sings "Happy Birthday" and then I read the book to the class. The birthday student also gets a small birthday gift from me. Due to the large number of allergies, we do not celebrate birthdays with treats. Those students who have a birthday when we are not in school may decide on a day to celebrate their birthdays and bring a book in to share with the class. |
Water Bottles -
It is fine to send your Wise Owl to school with a water bottle. As a matter of fact, it would be preferred. I let the students put their water bottles on a table, and when they need a drink, they can just get up and get one. If the water bottle is in the room, no one needs to miss anything that is going on when they get a drink of water. This also alleviates everyone wanting to go for a drink of water when one person asks for one! Please be sure names are on water bottles. Also, be sure that the water bottles are not breakable and that they have a top that does not need to come off in order for your child to drink from it.
